Lecture Demonstration on the art and life of Shrimati M.S. Subbulakshmi

RK Shriramkumar, a beloved favorite of the Sruti community, hails from the eminent Rudrapatnam family in Karnataka, and is a grand-nephew of Sangita Kalanidhi R.K. Srikantan. He is a violinist par excellence, and a very capable concert level vocalist as well, having trained under Vidwan D.K. Jayaraman. In his illustrious career, he has accompanied all the great legends of carnatic music.  His prowess with the bow is surpassed only by his deep and abiding scholarship of musical history, sanskrit literature and philosophy.

Shri RKS's  long association with M.S. Subbulakshmi, both as an accompanist as well as a family friend makes him an ideal choice to expound on her greatness, on this august occasion of her birth centenary.

During this lecdem, RKS will be accompanied by Carnatic Music students from our own Sruti community, who will render selected kritis, songs and shlokas that were dear to MS amma, and will also help elaborate on her virtuosity.

Siddarth Ashokkumar, a young and accomplished violinist in the tri-state area who is also well known to the Sruti community, will accompany the group.

Mrdangam support will be provided by Sanjay Subramanian, an up and coming young artist who is currently a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania.
