Veena Kanumalla (Disciple of Smt. Kiranavali Vidyasankar)

Veena Kanumalla

Veena Kanumalla began learning Carnatic music from Dinakar Subramaniam (2001) and later came under the tutelage of the well-known musician Smt. Kiranavali Vidyasankar (2006). Veena has taken lead roles in many thematic group programs directed by Kiranavali such as Tyagaraja's Pancharatna kritis (2007-present), Muttuswami Dikshitar's Navagraha kritis (2008), Shyama Shastri's Swarajatis (2009), Great Composers of the 19th century (2010), as well as the Tribute programs celebrating the late Smt. T. Brinda's centenary (2012). She has additionally performed solo on quite a few occasions including the Bhakti Vani series at the Bharatiya Temple, besides competing successfully at the Cleveland Aradhana and the Sringeri Temple in Stroudsburg, PA. Veena has taken an active role in the Sruti community, leading the Sruti Youth Group for two years.

She is in her third year at Temple University in Philadelphia studying Risk Management & Insurance in the Fox School of Businessand Management. Aside from her academic pursuits and music, Veena enjoys being part of a professional business fraternity oncampus, and traveling.

Accompanied by Vivek Ramanan on Mridangam, Swetha Narasimhan on Violin and Vinay Mallikaarujun on Kanjira.

Vivek Ramanan

Vivek is a student of ‘Laya Kala Ratna’, Sri Ramesh Srinivasan and the Sarvalaghu Percussion Arts Center (SPAC) for the past 7 years. He has provided accompaniment for Carnatic vocal concerts and has participated in many events of the school including several thaala vadhyam programs, along with accompanying several upcoming artists across the Bay Area. Vivek has also performed in konnakol programs for the school and was featured in two Cleveland Aradhana showcase programs in 2013 and 2014, for which he was highly commended for his konnakol skills by both Sri. Mannargudi Eashwaran and Smt. Aruna Sairam. He completed his mridangam arangetram in August this year, in San Jose,California, by providing percussion support for the vocal concert by the Carnatica Brothers with Hemmige Srivatsan on Violin and Sri. Balaji Chandran on Ghatam. In addition to mridangam, Vivek is also a trained bharatanatyam dancer havingcompleted his arangetram in 2008 under the guidance of his first guru Smt. Madhusri Sethuraman. He later trained with Smt. Vidhya Subramanian and with several acclaimed male dancers including Sri. V.P. Dhananjayan, Sri. A. Laksman and Sri. Seshadri Iyengar. Vivek is also a trained nattuvanar, having performed with his teacher, Smt. Vidhya Subramanian in professional programs.

Swetha Narasimhan

Swetha Narasimhan is a senior at Bryn Mawr College studying math and education. She started learning violin at the ageof 6 from Dr. Narayan Raman in Indianapolis. Later she was taught by several violinists, including Shri. Purna Chander Rao,Trichy Shri. Sathyamurthy, and Smt. Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi. She is currently learning from Smt. Gowri Ramakrishnan.Swetha has participated in several music festivals and won first prizes in competitions in CMANA Great Composer's Day and the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. She enjoys accompanying many local artists in and around New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Vinay Mallikaarujun

Vinay Mallikaarjun has been learning Kanjira and Mridangam from Srinath Bala for five years. Vinay has accompanied many leading Carnatic musicians on Kanjira, such as Sikkil Gurucharan, T.S. Satyavathi, Kiranavali Vidyashankar, and Kalavathi Avadhoot. Vinay has also been learning Carnatic Vocal Music from Smt. Usha Char for the past thirteen years, and he has given several vocal concerts in the USA and abroad.

Vinay is currently pursuing his Master of Education degree at the University of Pennsylvania.
