Mini Vocal Concert Afternoon Session: Anil Chitrapu

TBAnil Chitrapu has been learning Carnatic vocal music since 2000. He is a student of Sri D. Seshachary of the Hyderabad Brothers, and had his arangetram at Gwynedd Mercy College in 2008. Anil has given full-length performances in Kakinada and Hyderabad, as well as in US venues including Delaware Temple, Bharatiya Temple, and Bridgewater Temple. Anil is also trained in both piano and Western vocal music. He is a senior at Wissahickon High School, and sings with the men’s Choir, Camerata Select Choir, Chamber Singers, and Barbershop quarter. He was also selected for the PMEA District Chorus festival earlier this year. Anil is active in the theater programs at school, playing lead roles in Phantom of the Opera, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Evita, Prelude to a Kiss, Footloose, Aladdin, and more.

Mini Vocal Concert Morning Session: Revathi Subramony

TBRevathi Subramony comes from Bangalore. She is a disciple of Smt. Neela Ramgopal, a well known carnatic vocalist in India. She was trained by her guru in the classical style of the late Sri. T.K.Rangachari. Revathi has performed at several sabha’s in Bangalore including the Gayana Samaja, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, The Indian Institute of World Culture, Saraswathi Gana Sabha and also for All India Radio (Bangalore). Revathi has also accompanied her guru on many occasions. Revathi performed for Sruti in 2006 and at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana in 2008. She has also given concerts at the Shiva Vishnu temple in Cleveland, Venkateshwara temple in Pittsburgh and the Mahalakshmi temple in Delaware. Revathi has a master’s degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of Iowa and is a pharmacist by profession. She lives with her husband and two children in Exton.

Mini Dance Concert Afternoon Session: Shoba Narayanan

SNShoba Narayanan is a bharatanatyam disciple of Shoba Sharma, a senior student of the Dhananjayans.  She has also received training directly from the Dhananjayans and the Chandrasekhars.   She has given performances at various venues that include Kimmel Center, Painted Bride and Wilma Theater, and during the Music Season in India, at Narada Gana Sabha, Brahma Gana Sabha, Karthik Fine Arts, Mylapore Fine Arts and Vani Mahal.  Shoba is also a professional level ballet dancer.  She has trained in voice and has played lead roles in theater productions.  She is pursuing her undergraduate degree at the Boston Conservatory.  Shoba’s honors include first place in the Cleveland Aradhana dance competition, first place for voice in the Tri-County Youth Festival, Apprenticeship award from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and “Outstanding Young Achiever Award” from the Council of Indian Organizations. Mini Vocal Concert Afternoon Session: Ranjani Prabhakar

RRanjani Prabhakar has been learning Carnatic music for the past 13 years. She began her studies under the guidance of Ms. Indu Vasudevan of Princeton, New Jersey, and over the past few years, she has also been learning from the renowned vocalist O. S. Thyagarajan of Madras, India. Ranjani has won a number of youth singing competitions and has performed in India and in many music festivals and aradhanas in the Northeast states. Ranjani is a recent graduate of Emory University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science. She is currently working towards publishing her research on Carnatic vocal pedagogy, and wishes to continue with her vocal training.
